Indians Among Leaders In Ten Sections
By Arvind Aaron
Indians have started well but the event appears tougher this time around
with the Russians participating. India benefited from the absence of
Russians at Batumi last year as the strongest chess nation did not
compete due to political reasons.
Indians are off the block in almost all sections. We are among the leaders
in ten out of the twelve sections. We are not leading in only two
sections and that is easy to count! In Girls Under-10 section and the Boys
Under-18 section we don't have joint lead.
Under-18: International Master Gogineni Rohith of Hyderabad is on 1.5/2
and is tied for the 18th place. Dasari Sai Srinivas of Vijayawada is on
one point.
There are 111 players.
Under-16: Seventh seed B.Adhiban of Chennai has won both games and it
among the 24 leaders with full two points. Other Indians: S.Nitin of
Salem, R.Ashwath and V.A.V.Rajesh of Chennai are on one point each.
There are 124 players.
Under-14: Top seed International Master S.P.Sethuraman of Chennai is among
the four Indians who are leading this section with full two points. He is
facing another Chennai player N.Srinath sponsored by Sun Group, Delhi in a
third round top board clash. Other two leaders from India are Vidit
Gujrathi of Nasik and Mehar Chinna Reddy (AP). Other Indians:
Prasanna Rao of Mumbai, Pranav Shetty (Mah), Mohan Rahul (Kenya),
Atishay Ajmera are on one point each. There are 151 players.
Under-12: Ninth seed FM G.V.Sai Krishna of Vijayawada and Utkal Ranjan
Sahoo (seed 27) are among the 28 leaders with full two points. Former
world under-10 champion Sahaj Grover of Delhi is on 1.5. There are
159 players.
Under-10: Fourth seed Shardul Gagare of Shirdi, Maharashtra, Vaibhav Suri
and Prince Bajaj of Delhi are among the 25 players leading this
section with full two points. Last year's World Under-8 champion Ch
Mohineesh of Visakhapatnam is on 1.5 points. Defending champion
Girish Koushik of Mysore suffered a defeat and is on one point with
his Karnataka team-mate M.Satvik. There are 155 players.
Under-8: Fourth seed Arjun Bharat, Jerome George Ebenezer have scored 2/2
and are among the leaders with full two points. Shivan Srivastav (UP) is
on 1.5 points after a win and a draw. Harshal Shahi, fifth seed lost
round two after winning round one. G.V.Revanth Reddy was defeated in
the first round made a comeback in the second. There are 120
