Four Indians Among Leaders

Round four saw four Indians among the leaders in their respective sections in the World Youth Chess Championship which is being played at Antalya in Turkey on Nov 21.

Three Indians girls, Mary Ann Gomes (Girls U-18) of Kolkata, J.Mohana Priya (Girls-14) of Chennai and defending champion Ivana Furtado (Girls-8) of Goa are among the leaders with seven round still to be played. In boys, IM S.P.Sethuraman of Chennai is leading the Under-14 section with three others. Kiran Mohanty (Girls-18) and J.Vaishnavi (Girls-12) slipped from being in joint lead in their respective sections.

Boys Section

Under-18: International Master Gogineni Rohith played a draw against a lower rated player to reach 2.5 points. FM Dasari Sai Srinivas won to reach 3. The third Andhra player, M.R.Lalith Babu is on two points.

Under-16: Indians have fallen back in this section. Our scorers: B.Adhiban, S.Nitin 2.5/4 each, R.Ashwath, 2, V.A.V.Rajesh 1.5.

Under-14: Top seed IM S.P.Sethuraman of Chennai won pawns and defeated eight seed Vidit Gujrathi of Nasik to be among the four leaders with full 4/4. Other Indians: Vidit Gujrathi, Prasanna Rao, Mehar Chinna Reddy, Pranav Shetty, N.Srinath 3 each.

Under-12: G.V.Sai Krishna is sharing the fifth place with 3.5/4 with a win. Other Indians: Fenil Shah, Shiven Khosla 3 each, Sahaj Grover, Utkal Ranjan Sahoo 2.5 each.

Under-10: Four Indians are tied for the fourth place on 3.5/4 and it includes Asian champion Shardul Gagare, Ch Mohineesh, Prince Bajaj and Vaibhav Suri.

Under-8: India has a setback when both boys in the top lost. Jerome Jorge Ebenezer (3/4) was defeated by Konstantin Savenkov of Russia in the fourth round. Shivam Srivastav (2.5/4) and G.V.Revanth Reddy (2/4) were also defeated. The three boys who won were Arjun Bharat, Harshal Shahi and Hetul Shah, all on 3/4.

Girls Section

Under-18: Woman International Master Mary Ann Gomes of Kolkata scored an important win to join WGM Anya Corke of Hong Kong in the lead with 4/4. Kiran Mohanty suffered a defeat and is on 3/4 sharing the fifth place. R.Preethi is on 2.

Under-16: Pon N.Krithikha won her fourth round to reach 3/4 while Bhakti Kulkarni lost on 2.5. P.Uthra drew to reach 2.5. Mitali Patil won to reach 2.5.

Under-14: J.Mohana Priya of Chennai is among the three players who are leading this section with full four points. She faces the top seed WFM Nazi Paikidze of Georgia next with black. Other Indians: Shalmali Gagare 3, Padmini Rout, Sai Nirupama 2.5 each, N.L.V.Anusha 2.

Under-12: J.Vaishnavi held higher rated Polish opponent Anna Iwanow to a draw with black. She moved from joint lead to sharing sixth place on 3.5/4. Other Indians: Priyanka Kumari 3, Anjana S Krishna 2.5, B.Pratyusha 2, Mannepalli Vyshnavi, Ch Sahajasri, Michelle Catherina 2 each.

Under-10: Gorthy Aishwarya is tied for the sixth place with 3.5/4 with a win. Other Indians: U.Ashwini 2.5, M.Mahalakshmi 2.

Under-8: Ivana Furtado is among the three Asian girls who are leading this section with full four points. C.H.Meghna is tied for the fourth place on 3.5 and faces Ivana in the fifth round.Other Indians:C.R.Varsha 2.5,P.Preethy 2.
