Indians Share Lead In Seven Sections

Indians are doing well in the Girls Under-18 and Boys Under-14 sections in
the World Youth Chess Championships which is being played at Antalya in
Turkey.
Indians are sharing lead in three of the six Boys sections and four of the
six girls sections. Clearly, our girls are doing better. Three rounds are
completed and eight more are still to go.
There are 12 titles to be won and 36 medals on the table. Last year at
Batumi we won five titles and ten medals. What we get this time will be
known on Nov 29. IM Manuel Aaron, K.Visweswaran and others are there with
the team as coach.
Boys Section
Under-18: International Master Gogineni Rohit from Guntur who lives in
Hyderabad played a draw to reach 2/3. He shares the 21st place with Dasari
Sai Srinivas of Vijayawada and others. M.R.Lalith Babu is on one point.
Under-16: B.Adibhan suffered a shock defeat consuming more time at the
clock to lose and move from 2/2 to 2/3 where he now shares the 22nd place
with S.Nitin and R.Ashwath. V.A.V.Rajesh is half a point behind on 1.5.
Under-14: Top seed International Master S.P.Sethuraman defeated N.Srinath
also of Chennai and is now facing another Indian, Vidit Gujrathi of Nasik
in the fourth round. Three of the eleven leaders are from India.
Sethuraman, Vidit, Mehar Chinna Reddy (AP) all have full 3 points. On 2
points are former world U-12 champion N.Srinath, Prasanna Rao of Mumbai,
Pranav Shetty (Mah).
Under-12: G.V.Sai Krishna played a draw and as a result no Indian is in
joint lead in this section. Sai Krishna, Utkal Ranjan Sahoo are on 2.5
points and are sharing the tenth place. Others: Fenil Shah, Shiven Khosla
2 each.
Under-10: Five of the eight leaders in this section are from Asia. It also
includes our own Prince Bajaj of Delhi who is the tenth seed. Other
Indians: Shardul Gagare, Ch Mohineesh, Vaibhav Suri 2.5 each. Defending
champion Girish Koushik of Mysore and M.Satvik (Kar) are on two points.
Under-8: Jerome George Ebenezer G of Chennai is among the 12 players who
are leading this section with full three points. Jerome is accompanied by
FIDE Trainer title holder Ebenezer Joseph of Emmanuel Chess Centre,
Chennai. Other Indians: Shivam Srivastav 2.5, Arjun Bharat, G.V.Revanth
Reddy, Harshal Shahi, Hetul Shah 2 each, Yeshwanth Nagasai 1.5.
Girls Section
Under-18: Second seed Kiran Mohanty of Bhubaneswar and Mary Ann Gomes of
Kolkata are among the five leaders in this section with 3/3. R.Preethi is
tied for the 14th place on two points.
Under-16: National Junior Girls champion Bhakti Kulkarni played a draw in
the third round against highe rated Marshall Abby (USA) to slip from joint
lead to share the seventh place on 2.5/3. Pon N.Krithikha, P.Uthra are on
2. Mitali Patil is on 1.5.
Under-14: J.Mohana Priya of Chennai is lucky to have her personal trainer
K.Visweswaran in Antalya. She is leading this section with full three
points and has another nine players on the same points. Other Indians:
Kotepalli Sai Nirupama 2.5, Shalmali Gagare 2, Padmini Rout 1.5.
Under-12: J.Vaishnavi is among the eleven leaders with full three points
in this section. Anjana Krishna is on 2.5 followed by former National U-11
champion Priyanka Kumari, Mannepalli Navya Vyshnavi, B.Pratyusha on two
points.
Under-10: No Indian is ahead in this section though Monisha Raja Jawahar
of Singapore is among the nine leaders with full three points. U.Ashwini,
G.Aishwarya are on 2.5 each and M.Mahalakshmi is on 2.
Under-8: Defending champion Ivana Furtado of Goa is leading this section
with full three points. There are five other players with her. C.R.Varsha
2.5, P.Preethy 2, Prathima Muthyala Bansi 1.5.
