Ivanchuk Pips Anand For Title

In a close tournament, Vassily Ivanchuk of Lvov, Ukraine pipped Chennai's
Vishy Anand in the final round to win the FIDE World Blitz Championship at
Moscow on Nov 22.
Ivanchuk capitalised on Anand's 33rd move blunder to fork two rooks and
win the final round 38 with the black pieces and also win the title.
Ivanchuk, 38, scored 1.5-0.5 against Anand and won with a good
performance.
Anand has had some good 2-0 sweeps like the ones against Adams, Morozevich,
Carlsen, Gelfand and Korotylev. It was a 2710 average rating strength with
category 19 strength.
Ivanchuk, Anand and Grischuk ended with a point separating each of them.
Grischuk, the defending champion was third.
This event, also called the Tal Memorial was held from Nov 9-22 in many
sections. Eighth world champion Tal was born on Nov 9, 1936 at Riga and
died on June 28, 1992 at Moscow.
