Ivanchuk Leads In World Blitz At Moscow

Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine, the fastest rising player in the world top in the last few months, took a half point lead in the World Blitz Championship at Moscow with a 13.5/19 in a 20-player double all-play-all at Moscow on Nov 21-22. On Nov 22, the same players will face each other with reversed colours with Anand v Ivanchuk slated for the final round number 38. So, 19 rounds remain to be played.

Defending champion Alexander Grischuk is in second place with 13 points. Anand won eight games and lost four while drawing the rest of the seven games for a 11.5/19 finish in day one of the two day contest at Moscow. Anand is in fifth place and can reduce the deficit in the second day.

Anand scored over Morozevich, Carlsen, Mamedyarov, Adams, Gelfand, Savchenko, Korotylev and Karpov. Anand lost to Grischuk, Kamsky, Leko and Kramnik and drew the rest of the players.

Ivanchuk, also 1969-born like Anand, scored over key opponents who finished in the top like Grischuk, Kamsky, Kramnik and lost three games to Mamedyarov, Gelfand and Bacrot who finished in the bottom.
