Anand Leaves For Moscow

By Arvind Aaron

World Champion Viswanathan Anand left Chennai on Monday for Moscow to play in the World Blitz Chess Championship from November 21-22. He will travel via Delhi.

This will be his last chess engagement for 2007. His next tournament which will be rated in Elo will be the Corus Chess Tournament at Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands from January 10, 2008. Anand is a record five time winner of this event.

Anand is accompanied to Moscow by his wife Aruna Anand. The defending champion at Moscow will be Alexander Grischuk of Russia. It will be a large 18-player all-play-all blitz event and Anand should come good as he thinks quick.

Anand had been attending felicitation functions and celebrating Deepavalli in Chennai in the past few weeks. He was also sick for a few days and has recovered in time to brave the Moscow chill yet again.
