Abhijeet Gupta wins

Three-time National Junior Champion Abhijeet Gupta of Bhilwara, Rajasthan won the All India Open at Aurangabad recently and picked up Rs.50,000. He is widely expected to become India's seventeenth grandmaster.
Vijay Deshpande, Secretary of the Mahashtra Chess Association is making Aurangabad the most happening place in ths country by organising this 150-player event for a prize fund of Rs.2 lakhs.
Abhijeet who requires a few Elo for the GM title has perhaps obtained it here and when this event is rated, his title will change from IM to GM. He is with Bharat Petroleum.
AICF's Vice Presidents, R.M.Dongre and Sameer Salgaocar commended the efforts of the Marathwada Chess Association. Organisers also provided meals during all the rounds. Chennai's R.R.Laxman finished second and took home Rs.30,000.
