Sasikiran To Play In Category 20 Event

Krishnan Sasikiran will play in the 3rd MTel Masters at Sofia from May 9-20, 2007. It will be a six player double round robin tournament. The other six players are Veselin Topalov (Bul), L.D.Nisipeanu (Rom), World Junior champion Shakriyar Mamedyarov (Aze), Michael Adams (Eng), Gata Kamsky (USA) and Sasikiran.

The event will be classical chess and played at a seven hour per round session. The patron is Georgi Parvanov, President of Bulgaria. The venue will be the Sofia Hall of the luxury five star Grand Hotel Sofia. The ban on draws will continue from the previous edition and can be drawn only with the consent of the chief arbiter.

It is a big opportunity for Sasikiran to recover the Elo losses he had suffered at the Aeroflot Open and the Ruy Lopez tournament in the last two months.

Sasikiran swung into the 2700 rating club with a massive performance in the Asian Games at Doha last December. He had since drawn plenty of attention among the organisers of the elite competitions.
