Seth Suganchand Chittlangia Memorial
International Rating Open Chess Tournament
Tournament
was Organized from may 12th to 18th, 2007. at Chittlangia Bhawan,
Sri Ganganagar. A remote town in North Rajasthan, bordering Punjab,
Haryana & Pakistan.
The new State level Chess Association, All Rajputana Chess Association has
brought the International Rating Open Chess Tournaments to small towns
like Sri Ganganagar. All credit goes to Mr P K Gupta Hony Secretary of All
Rajputana Chess Association, who took personal interest in development of
chess in Rajasthan.
This tournament was organized by Sri Ganganagar District Chess Association
under active guidance of Hony. Secretary of All Rajputana Chess
Association. When this tournament was being organized, the neighboring
States like Punjab, Delhi & HP were busy in theirs State Senior
Championship. Rajasthan was reeling under heat wave of
46 C. Tournament was overshadowed . But despite all these odds 79 players
including 27 Rated Players out of them Two International Masters from all
over India & One Bangla Deshi reached the Remote border town of
Sriganganagar to play Chess.
Inaugural ceremony of this tournament was a well attended function of the
Town. Chairman of the ceremony was Mr Justice P P Singh & Senior IAS Mr
Karni Singh Rathore was the Chief Guest.
In the opening ceremony of tournament trust felicitated 13 persons of
outstanding Caliber in different field for theirs life time services &
contribution to society. All the persons were above 70 yrs & were honored
for Education, Music, Agriculture, Cow Welfare. Surprisingly 11 yr Local
Girl & First International Rated Chess Player of Rajasthan, Nishtha Gupta
also figured in this elite group. All the audience gave standing welcome
to this tiny maestro .
The Chief guest inaugurated the Tournament when he made first move against
IM Himanshu Sharma.
First round was smooth sail for all top seeded players except Rajasthan
Champion
Mukesh Mandloi who was defeated by fellow player Kuldeep Bhardawaj. Seven
Time Rajasthan State Champion S S Dave had to draw with his city fellow
Purushottam Joshi.
Second round witnessed some interesting games of Chess. 12 yr Chandigarh
Boy Shaswat Shivam forced Bangla Deshi Player Firoz Ahmed to Surrender in
29th move. Local Vijay Rewad defeated Bikaner Rated Player Narendra Singh.
Local unrated Gokul Chand drew 11th seed P Satyanarayana of Andhra. IM
Dinesh Sharma had to struggle hard till 68 move to defeat upcoming Jaipur
player Tarun Sharma. Local Girl Star Nishtha held Seven time undefeated
Rajasthan State Champion S S Dave to a draw.
Third Round witnessed some upsets & tough fights between chess maestro.
Local Veteran player P L Sharma upset 5th seed Gopal Ashok Rathod of MP .
& Saurav Roop of Bihar halted Ex National B Champion Kanti lal Dave.
Fourth Round : it was almost easy round for top boards. A few Local
Players sparkle in otherwise insipid round. Local unrated Gokul chand drew
against 6th seed Bangla deshi Player Firoz ahmed. Local unrated Charan
singh Saharan defeated 13th seed Gandhi Vinay Balkrishana.
Fith Round saw an early clash of Titans. IM Himanshu Sharnma & IM Dinesh
Sharma Challenged each other for championship. In a beautifully played
very close chess game IM Dinesh defeated Himanshu in End game. Local Gokul
Chand continued his draw spree against Rated players. Tarun Sharma of
Jaipur again defeated seeded player, this time his victum was State
Champion Mukesh mandloi.. Kuldeep Bhardawaj of Jaipur shocked 8th seed k k
kulhari of Bikaner.
6th Round. Players celebrated Birth Day of Jaipur Kid Atishaya Ajmera. Who
also enjoyed his birthday when he defeated quickly Local vateran J S Sara.
Top Boards witnessed variations of Sicilian Defence. Two undefeated
Players of Tournament IM Dinesh Sharma & Rahul Sangma were on First Board.
A beautiful Chess was played. Hard fight of Four hours could not yield any
result. Bangla Deshi player Firoz ahmed once again failed to muster full
point.
7th round. It was strange but true that result of top board decided the
leader of tournament, who was playing on 2nd board. IM Himanshu Sharma
defeated Rahul Sangma . with the defeat of Rahul sangma, IM Dinesh Sharma
become the Sole leader.
Local vatern P L Sharma defeated Ex National B Champion Kanti Lal dave &
emerged Sole Leader for Best Rajasthan. Bangla Desi Feroz Ahmed once again
drew against low rated player. Local unrated Gokul Chand defeated 8th seed
K K Kulhari of Bikaner.
8th round. P Satya narayana of Andhra shocked 3rd seed Rahul Sangma .
Local unrated Charan Singh Saharan defeated 11th seed Shridhankar Subhash
Bhargav of Maharashtra.
Rajasthan Champion Mukesh Mandloi once again defeated by a low rated
player. This time this upset was created by 11 yr Chandigarh Boy Shaswat
Shivam.
9th round. IM Dinesh Sharma took no Risk & agreed for quick draw against P
Satyanarayan of Andhra to take home Championship, Glittering Trophy & Rs
25000/ cash.. IM Himanshu Sharma defeated local P L Sharma & secured 2nd
position & booty of Rs. 15000/ . 12th seed P STYANARAYANA of Andhra
surprisingly made it to 3rd & brought home Rs 11000/-
Local Ganganagar Players took full advantage of 1st rating tournament at
home. Local
P L Sharma settled overall 5th & Best Rajasthan & Best Ganganagar. 11
local players would get full or partial rating from this tmt. 6 local
players figured in Main Prize list. & took 4 special Prizes.
Best Female, 2nd Best Female, Best Rajasthan Female, Best U/16 & Best U/12
Girls Prizes were Taken by Local Sisters Astha & Nishtha. 14 yr Astha
finished overall 22nd & also figured in Main Prize list.
Deaf & Dumb Rajat Gupta performed exceedingly well & secured 21st Position
with 5.5 poits & got partial rating in this tournament. He was also
adjudged Best Sports Person.
19 yr Tarun Sharma & 14 yr Atishaya Ajmera shown that they are the future
player.
Shaswat shivam of Chandigarh defeated/drew with many higher rated players.
Local girls Astha & Nishtha Sparkled in this predominately male sport &
hinted that they would lead Female Chess in the State.
Trophies for Best Rajasthan, best rajasthan Female & Best Rajasthan Junior
were declared by All Rajputana Chess Association.
P D ceremony was a Glittering & well attended ceremony despite the fact
that town was reeling under communal tension & sec 144.
Chairman of the Ceremony was Mr Gurjant Singh Ex Minister & seating MLA.
Chief Guest of Ceremony was Dr O P Mahendra. MLA & Government Deputy Chief
Whip .
