Sorokin Passes Away
By Arvind Aaron

Maxim Sorokin, chess grandmaster, from Russia who worked in India, Argentina and Russia as a trainer passed away on July 2, 2007. A week earlier, his car was involved in a crash as he was travelling from Elista to Volgograd airport after working as trainer for Sergey Rublevsky in the Candidates Matches that took place there in May-June.

FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has condoled the death of Sorokin. Sorokin (1968-2007) was the head of the Elista Grandmaster School. He was widely respected, and worked as trainer for the Russian women's team as well as served as a trainer in Argengina and India. Indian chess has certainly lost one of its Russian links.
