Soumya Holds Abhijeet Gupta To A Draw

National Junior Girls Champion Soumya Swaminathan of Pune and National Junior champion Abhijeet Gupta of Rajasthan are sharing the third spot in the 12th Balaguer International Open at Spain on July 19. They have 3.5/4 after a mutual 44-move fighting draw and are in line for their respective norms. Six rounds remain to be played in this 125-player contest.
 
FM Robert Aloma and GM Aleksander Delchev are leading the tournament with full four points. The field includes 11 GMs.
 
B.Adhiban of Chennai has recovered from the early defeat to Soumya to race up to three points from four games after beating former World under-10 champion Sahaj Grover. On the same 3/4 are Abhishek Das, Arun Karthik and Dinesh Kumar Sharma.
 
Arun Karthik held handicapped German GM Thomas Luther while Abhishek Das held GM Levan Aroshidze to a draw also with the white pieces. Ashwin Jayaram (2/4) suffered a defeat to a player rated much lower.
