Anand Tied For Third Place

Viswanathan Anand of Chennai and Parimarjan Negi of Delhi are on plus one in their respective sections of the Corus Chess Tournament being played at Wijk aan Zee in the Netherlands. Anand is playing in the Grand Master Group A event where he has 2.5/4 after draw with Ponomariov, win with Motylev and draws with Aronian and Carlsen. Negi is also on the same score but in his Grand Master Group C section.

Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan is in sole lead with 3.5/4 and is followed by Veselin Topalov on 3 points. Anand, Kramnik, Aronian and Navara are tied for the third place with 2.5 points. There is live coverage at www.coruschess.com Radjabov is walking tall in the event with a 3000+ rating performance. For the boy who along with Pentala Harikrishna made a GM norm in the Grand Master Group B in 2001, has grown fast and high.

Anand had played one white and three blacks in the first four games and the result so far is per his high standards. Nine rounds remain to be played in this 14-player round robin tournament. Anand faces Svidler with the white pieces on Thursday.
