NATIONAL "B" TO BE MADE NORM EVENT

The next National "B" Chess Championship to be held in Goa in 2008 will be a Grandmaster Norm Tournament. This was decided at the All India Chess Federation Central Council Meeting held at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai on December 21, 2007. ......
The meeting chaired by the AICF President N.Srinivasan, also approved reducing of the National "A" to a 14-player event with eleven players qualifying from the National "B" and three players seeded from the National "A" and the National Women 'A' will be a 12 player event with 9 players qualifying from the National Women 'B' and 3 players seeded from National Women 'A'.
The Indian team for all future Chess Olympiads, Men and Women will be selected from the FIDE Rating list. For the Dresden Olympiad in 2008, the April 2008 rating list will be the selection criteria for men and women.
D.V.Sundar noted that the Commonwealth Chess Championship was very well organised by the Delhi Chess Association. He welcomed Pradeep Jain, Vice President of AICF and commended him for big support to chess in Delhi.
A new event, National Schools Championship will make it to the National Chess Calendar and the details are being worked out.
A total of 20 National Championships were taken by ten state chess associations for the year 2008. Here is the list:
National "A" 2008 - Karnataka
National "B" 2008 - Goa
National Women "A" - Delhi
National Women "B" - Kerala
National Under-25 (Men) - Bihar
National Under-19 (Boys/Girls) - Andhra
National Under-17 (Boys/Girls) - Puducherry
National Under-15 (Boys/Girls) - Karnataka
National Under-13 (Boys/Girls) - Tamil Nadu
National Under-11 (Boys/Girls) - Gujarat
National Under-9 (Boys/Girls) - Delhi
National Under-7 (Boys/Girls)- Maharashtra
National Rapid (Men) - Andhra
