PARSVNATH 21ST NATIONAL UNDER-13 CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
 

VIDIT SURGES AHEAD


New Delhi (21/12/07) :- Overnight sole leader, defending champion Vidit Santosh Gujarathi maintained his lead at the end of the 10th and penultimate round of the Parsvnath 21st National Under-13 Chess Championship 2007 in progress here at Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra by drawing his game easily with Ankit R Rajpara of Gujarat. In an uneventful game, neither players took the risk and both of them signed peace treaty in 15 moves. Vidit have 9 points and just need a draw to defend his title tomorrow. In 11th and final round he will play against second placed and state mate Pranav Shetty, he have 8.5 points. Last edition second runner up Pranav bounced back into the 2nd spot by beating Girish A Koushik of Karnataka on the 2nd board. Pranav being closely tailed by pack of three players, namely Ankit R Rajpara of Gujarat, Lokesh P of Tamilnadu and Narayanan Srinath of Tamilnadu, all of whom have got 8 points each.


P Lokesh of Tamilnadu, playing black side of Sicilian defence overcame his much fancied opponent second seed and Asian Under-12 bronze medallist Prasanna Rao of Mahrashtra. Back in form, former World Under-12 champion Naryanan Srinath defeated Vishwanath Prasad of Andhrapradesh.


It was another mixed day for the local Delhi lads, Prince Bajaj had to settle for another draw against Srinath Rao of Chattisgarh. Vaibhav Suri after losing his overnight game bounced back to beat Mukesh M of Tamilnadu. Vaibhav Khanna drew his game against Praveen Kumar of Andhrapradesh. All three have 6.5 points each from out of possible 10.

 
Earlier in the 9th round Vidit Santosh Gujarathi defeated Lokesh P of Tamilnadu, Ankit R Rajpara split point against Prasanna Rao of Maharashtra. Girish A Koushik of Karnataka and Prnav Shetty of Maharashtra won their matches against Gahan M G of Karnataka and Adith Jagadish of Karnataka respectively.
