ROUSING START TO PARSVNATH 21ST NATIONAL UNDER-13
CHESS CHAMIONSHIP

New Delhi (15/12/07): Parsvnath 21st National Under-13 Chess Championship got off to a rousing start today here at Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra. The 21 st edition of this mega event has attracted a record participation of 245 players from across the country, including a total of 102 FIDE rated players.

The opening day proved to be an easy outing for seeded players, as most of them progressed to the second round with emphatic victories. Top seed and defending champion FIDE Master Vidit Santosh Gujrathi of Maharashtra over came his rival Ashitab Mishra of Delhi without much of a struggle on top board. Second seed and Asian Under-12 Bronze medalist Prasanna Rao of Maharashtra and Former World Under-12 Champion and third seed Narayanan Srinath also gained full point from the opening round by defeating Atul Bhonsle of Madhya Pradesh and Avijit Vajpayee of Delhi respectively.

Even the local favorite Commonwealth Gold Medallist Vaibhav Suri started his campaign in style by easily defeating Jayant Chouhan of Haryana. Surprisingly, the World Under-10 bronze medalist Prince Bajaj had a tough day in the office as he had to settle for a draw against a lower seeded Gourav Sharan of Tamilnadu. However the highlight of the day was the performance of the local lad Anish Jain, who carried full points into the second round by over powering his highly seeded opponent Aditya Chakraborty of West Bengal in an evenly contested match.

Earlier in the day, Shri Ajay Choudhari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India formally inaugurated the event by making a token move on the Chess Board. The other dignitaries present at the inauguration were Shri Pradeep Jain, Chairman Parsvnath Developers and Wing Commander J Rajendra, Commanding Officer, Headquarters Western Air Command Unit, Indian Air Force.
