A grand
reception dinner was held on April 26 at Chennai's Rain Tree Hotel to
World No.1 Viswanathan Anand after the Tamil Nadu State Chess
Association's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. At the entrance, the board
read, "Welcome, Vishy Anand."
The Honorary Secretary of the AICF, D.V.Sundar greeted one and all.Among
those present was P.R.Venketrama Raja, President, Tamil Nadu State Chess
Association, K.Viswanathan and family (Anand's parents), Anand and his
wife Aruna, K.Sasikiran and his parents.Members from the chess elite were
also present. Visiting grandmasters include, National champion S.S.Ganguly
of Kolkata, Abhijeet Kunte and Swati Ghate of Pune. Chennai's own Manuel
Aaron, V.Saravanan, N.Sudhakar Babu, K.V.Shantharam and others were
present.

Wijesuriya and her husband Bandula of Anatoly Karpov Chess Centre, Colombo
were present and were seen inviting players to come to their island for a
simultaneous display.
It gave an opportunity for chess players to mix well on the social side.
"I enjoyed the vegetarian food and curd rice," said Anand. Sasikiran was
seen going for repeated helpings of sweets and displayed photos on his
mobile phone.
"With so many chess players around, Anand is sitting and talking for so
long," said D.V.Sundar who considered this as the success of the
reception. A cake was also cut on that occasion.
