Title For Sai
Meera - Ten New Qualifiers This Time
By Arvind Aaron
Press Officer - AICF
The 33rd St Joseph's National B Chess
Championship concluded with Indian Bank's Sai Meera Ravi of Chennai
winning the title with a clear score of nine points from eleven rounds.
The event was held at the St Joseph's College of Engineering near Chennai.
It was organised by the Mount Chess Academy.
In the title deciding encounter, Sai Meera was little lucky as she was
fighting an ending with a two pawn deficit. Saheli Nath walked into a
self mate and lost the game. Sai Meera's biggest triumph as she returns
to the National A
This event is going to be remembered for many
things. Ten extra places were provided by the AICF this time. Ten new
players occupied them. Youngsters like Bhakti Kulkarni, Padmini Rout have
added their states of Goa and Orissa in the top list.
Two of the qualifiers belong the organising college: H.Nilavoli and
P.Sivasankari. Talents like Krithikha, Preethi and Aabha Thakur and Kanuri
were seen getting noticed in this event. Lakshmi Sahithi is also a new
qualifier though she had won five National and three Asian age group
titles. She lost three games but did not lose heart and came back to
defeat Jennitha Anto with white for a well deserved place in the A.
