14 Indians
Still In Lead
By Arvind Aaron
Diwali did not
go too well for the Indians on October 21 at Batumi. Georgians ended the
third round dreams of many Indians as our leaders were reduced to 14
players, seven boys and seven girls. Indians continued to rule the Boys 10
section which we have won on many occasions including Belfort 2005.
Girls Under-18: Second seed Dronavalli Harika and tenth seed Mary Ann
Gomes are in the joint lead along with one American player after three
rounds in this section. Our players face each other in the fourth round on
Oct 22.
Girls Under-16: India faced a serious setback in this section with all
three players, P.Uthra, Ramyakrishna and Dhyani Dave being defeated by
Georgian girls. Uthra moved out of joint lead to stay at two points,
Ramyakrishna is on 1.5 points and Dhyani Dave is left on one point.
Girls Under-14: Pon N.Krithikha and P.Lakshmi Sahithi are tied for the
third place in this section with 2.5 points from three rounds. Lakshmi
beat her team-mate Bhakti Kulkarni while overnight leader Krithikha was
held to a draw. Krithikha faces the top seed Muzychuk in the next game.

Orissa and sixth seed J.Mohana Priya of Chennai are among the six leaders
in the under-12 section after three rounds.

four leaders in the Girls Under-10 section with full three points. Second

Prasad is on 1/3 and G.Rohit is on 2/3 after winning the first round and
playing two draws with lower rated players.
Open Under-16: Both the overnight Indian leaders, Aswin Jayaram and
S.P.Sethuraman of Chennai did not win. While Aswin lost, Sethuraman drew
and now shares the third place on 2.5 points with others including Sai
Srinivas of Vijayawada.
Open Under-14: Y.Sandep slipped out of lead in the third round after he
was held to a draw by unrated Jonathan Tan of the Netherlands. Now,
Sandeep is tied for the fifth place on 2.5/3. On two points are S.Nitin
(seed 4) and K.Priyadarshan (seed 13). Second seed B.Adhiban was shocked
by low rated Janiashvili (Geo). Adhiban is on 1.5 points.
