assures all help for Chess in Goa, praises the role of AICF and GSCA'
V.M. Prabhudesai, Executive Director of Sports Authority of Goa, assured
all help to promote chess in Goa and also praised the role of AICF and
GSCA in making rapid strides in the development of chess within the state
of Goa as well as as the nation as a whole.
Prabhudesai made a special mention of the two Gold medallists of Goa -
Bhakti Kulkarni who won the Asian Under 14 Girls Gold and Ivana Furtado
who won the World Under 8 Girls Gold - and said that they have become
icons for the Goan kids who are rushing to emulate them now.
Father Wilfred Fernandes, the Chief Adminstrator of the Don Bosco school
mentioned that chess would be a vital tool in developing the mental
faculties of the students. Chess should be encouraged in all Goan schools
he added mentioning that there is a huge improvement in the children's
marks once they start playing chess.

Salgaocar, Vice President of AICF, thanked the AICF for alloting this
tournament to Goa and all the participants saying that this was a record
number of entries for Under 7 Nationals. He praised the efforts of Mr. D.V.
Sundar who has transformed chess among the Indian kids, remarking that the
proof of this is the 10 medals that India won in Batumi, Georgia in the
recently concluded World Youth Chess Championships.
Suhas Asnodkar, the Secretary of the GSCA, thanked the various sponsors
who had come forward to support this event. he pointed out
that Viswanathan Anand had won his first National Championship in Goa in
1983 and hoped that there would be another world beater in the present lot
of participants in the future.
