Ivana sole leader in Girls section  &  Shivram & Ebenezer share lead in boys.

In the girls section in National under 7 Chess Chamoionship being held at Don Bosco High School in Panjim World under 8 champion Ivana Furtado (5) became the sole leader after the 5th round in the girls section while Shivram Srivastav (5) of UP and Jerome Ebenezer (5) of TN share the lead.

Girls Section :
Ivana Furtado showed why she is the world champion in her age groop when she convincingly beat the top seed and only rated player in the tournament C.H.Mehana (4) of Kerala. Playing against the Semi Slav Defense Ivana left her King in the centre and stormed Meghna’s King side with her pawns. After opening up the Rook file her heavy pieces besieged the King and checkmate came on the 46th move.

On 2nd board Sarojini Devi (4.5) of AP used the system devised by the famous Andhra coach Shembu against Rutuja Bakshi(4.5) of MAH. The was drawn after 78 moves.

In other important games Shiny Das of Tripura (3.5) lost to Varsha C.R. (4) of TN while Akhila S (4) beat Forum Thakkar (3) of Guj. Bhargavi S (3) of TN lost to Shreya Chakraborty (4)of WB . Chandreyee Hazra (4) of WB beat Tejasvini Sagar (3) of Mah.

Among Goan girls Riya Sawant(3) beat Mithila A.(2) of TN and Nadia Dias (2.5) played a sparkling attack against the Sicilian Defense of Jytri (1.5) of AP to win in 27 moves. However Reema Naik (2), Sailee Parulekar (2) & Sakshi Prabhu lost their games.

Boys Section :

Shivram Srivastav (5) played the Tarrash Veriation against the French Defense of Abhimanyu Puranik(4) of MAH. He gained the control of the Queens side files and then squeezed the win in the end game.

Jerome Ebenezer (5) played the Three Knights Defense against fellow Tamilian Vignesh B(4) and won after a battle full of tactics.

On board 3 Revath Reddy (4.5) and Yeshwant N.S. (4.5) both from AP agreed for a draw wherein white was full piece up!

On 4th board other Saradhara Preet (3.5) of Guj played the Rui Lopez Exchange Variation against Sai Akshay (4.5), however he allowed his central pawns to get doubled and weak. Sai created a passed pawn on the King’s side which won him the game. 


Among other top games Anantharam R.U. (3.5) of Kar lost to Shah Hetul (4.5) of Guj. Aritra Dalvi (4) of WB beat Srinivas Venkatraman (3.5) of Mah, Rocky Kumar (4) of Orrisa beat Adithya (3) of TN, Saurab Mohanty(4) of Orrisa beat Anish Sai (3) of AP, Arjun Bharat (4) of Kar beat Kabyaneel Talukdar (3)of Assam, Bhanja Mritunjay (3) of Orrisa lost to Kartikeyan(4) of TN.

Among Goan players Snehil Shetty (4) beat Jain Jeet (3) of Guj but Rishubh Naik (3) lost to Dhonnar Nachiket (4) of Mah. Tatvesh Sawant (3) beat Anshuman Das (2) of Orrisa & Anirudha Bhat(3) beat Sumukh Pinge both of Goa(2). Pranav Mahatme (2)& Manthan Lad (2) lost their 5th round games.
