Nationla Under - 7 Chess Championship @ Goa
Girls : Megna,
Ivana continue lead
Top seeds continued
winning.
At the end of fourth
round of the girls section of National U/7 Chess Championship being held
at Don Bosco High School in Panjim the top two seeds continued their
winning form. C.H. Meghna (4) Kerala beat Akhila S (3) of AP while Ivana
Furtado (4) of Goa beat the 5th seed C. R. Varsha (3)of TN. On
the third board Shreya Chokrawarthi (3) of WB lost to Sarojini Devi (4)
from AP while 3rd seed Rutuja Bakshi (3.5) of MAH beat
S.Bharkavi (3) of TN.
C.R.Meghana was lucky as
her opponent missed trapping a piece in the middle game. After this she
made no mistake.
Playing the black side of
the Queens Gambit against C.R.Varsha, Ivana sacrified a piece for two
pawns in the middle game exposing her opponents King. To avoid the fierce
attack Varsha had to keep returning pieces and lost after 50 moves.
Rutuja Bakshi got an
equal game from Bharkavi in the Guico Piano Opening. Her opponent
inexplicably gave away a piece on move 26 after which her game collapsed.
Goan girls had a mixed
day today. Reema Naik (2), Saili Parulekar (2) and Sakshi Prabhu (2) won
their fourth round games while Riya Sawant (2) lost to Chadreyi Hazra (3)
of WB. While Vidula Dempo (1), & Nadia Dias (1.5) lost their games.
Boys Section: (4th
Round)
Abhimanyu Puranik (Mah),
Revanth Reddy (AP), Shivaram Srivastav (UP) Jerome Ebenazor (TN), Vignesh
B (TN) & Yeshwanth S (AP) are leading with 4 points in the boys section.
Among Goan boys Snehil
Shetty (3) beat S Delta (2) of Manipur and Rishubh Naik(3) beat Arvind
Chithambaram (2) of TN. However Aniruddha Bhat (2), Saish Mahale (2) ,
Sumukh Pinge(2) & Pranav Mahatme (2) lost their game. Tatvesh Sawant (2) &
Manthan Lad(2) won their 4th round game.
Third round results
Girls :
Earlier at the end of
third round C.H. Meghna (3) Kerala beat Chandreyee Hazra (2) of WB while
Ivana Furtado (3) of Goa beat Forum Thakkar (2) (Guj), S. Bhargavi (3) of
TN surprised the fancied Tejaswini Sagar (2) of Mah.
Meghna played the black
side of the Guico Piano opening and got an equal game. She then won a pawn
on the 21st move and the rest was a matter of technique for
her. Forum Thakkar played passively against Ivana’s Queen Pawn opening and
lost a piece on the 10th move. The game ended on the 30th
move.
Others leading included
Satoji Devi M (AP), C.R.Varsha (TN), Akhila S. (AP), N. Shreya Chakraborty
(WB).
Among the Goan girls
Saili Parulekar (1) and Sakshi Prabhu (1) scored their first points,
Riya Sawant (2), Reema
Naik (1), Vidula Dempo (1) lost their games while Nadia Dias (1.5) drew
her game with R. Sribinda (1.5) Orissa.
Boys Section:
Kaustuv Kundu (2.5) of WB
drew with Sai Akshay (2.5) of AP on top board while Abhimanyu Puranik of
Mah, Saurav Mohanty of Orissa, R. U. Anantram of Kar, Saradhara Preet of
Guj, Pavit Singh of Delhi, Shivaram Srivastav of UP all won their games.
In a minor upset Kaustuv
Kundu played out a marathon seventy move draw against top seed Sai Akshay.
Rocky Kumar tried the
Advanced Variation against the French Defense of Abhimanyu Puranik but
lost control of the important centre squares early in the middle game. He
lost an exchange on the 19th move and resigned after 32 moves.
Rishabh Naik (2)of Goa blundered a piece against Anantram and resigned on
19th move.
Among Goans boys Snehil
Shetty (2) lost to Jeron Ebenazor (3) of TN while Sumukh Pinge(2) drew his
game with Ayush (2) of UP. Aniruddha Bhat (2) beat Navjot Singh (1) of
Punjab, Saish Mahale (2) beat Aman Raitya (1) of CHT, Pranav Mahatme (2)
beat Anirudha (1) of KAR & Saish Bandodkar (2) beat Salim Raja (1) of
Assam. However Girish Kulkarni, Mathan Lad, Ashish Rebelo & Devid Velho
(all one point) lost their games.
