Three Gold Medals For India

The 2nd Asian schools Chess Festival was held in Singapore from Dec 17-23.
It was organised by the Singapore Chess Federation. India's world under-8
girls champion Ivana Furtado of Goa won the Girls Under-7 section with
7/7. Together with Ankitha Rajaram of Mangalore she won the team
gold medal for India in the Girls Under-7 group. Ankitha finished third in
the individuals.
Vaibhav Suri of India won the Boys Under-9 group with 8.5/9 for our third
gold medal. He was the top seed in his section. Three of our other top
seeds failed to win their respective sections and it includes: Ananyashree
Birla (Girls U-13), Adith Jagadish Boloor (Boys U-13) and Ankitha Rajaram
(Girls U-7).
Overall 19 Indians participated. India won three gold, two silver and two
bronze medals. Players from seven nations took part in this event which
was held in 10 sections, boys and girls in under-7, 9, 11, 13 and
15. Singapore won most of the medals and they also fielded most of the
entries.
