Lakshmi Sahiti Wins Asian U-16 Title

won one title and four medals overall in the Asian Under-16, 18
Championships that concluded this week at Kyrgyzstan. Hosts, Kyrgyzstan
won both the boys titles while Kazakhstan and India took one title each.
P.Lakshmi Sahiti of Andhra Pradesh scored seven points from nine rounds to
win the Girls Under-16 section. She suffered defeats but overcame the top
seed I.Ramya Krishna in the mutual encounter to win her biggest career
title. Ramya Krishna scored 6.5 points but finished fourth and missed out
on the medals list.
P.Sivasankari of Tamil Nadu finished third and took the bronze medal in
the Girls U-18 section. In this section, our big hope Mary Ann Gomes of
Kolkata failed to deliver, suffering two of her three defeats against
fellow Indians.

Like Mary Ann, Dasari Sai Srinivas of Vijayawada also
failed in the Boys Under-16 section when he started as the top seed and
finished second to pick up the silver medal. Third seed S.P.Sethuraman
finished third and took the bronze medal.

N.Nodirjanova (Uzb), I.Ramyakrishna (Ind) 6.5 each, 6-7 Pon N.Krithika (Ind),
