Harsh Karnati of Andhra Pradesh won the Under-9 Section in the Asian Schools Chess Festival organised by the Singapore Chess Federation at Hotel Royal in Singapore from December 18-24. India won one gold, seven silver and one bronze medal and was the third best among teams.
The maiden event was held in Under-9, 11, 13, 15 age groups for boys and girls. Hosts Singapore and Vietnam won more titles than Indians. Seventeen Indians participated in the event which attracted 150 players.
Harsh Karnati won the Under-9 section with 7.5/9. Indian team won the silver medal in this section. In the Under-11 section, team silver for India with Riddhish Kapadia and Asim Mehta contributing to it.
In the U-13 section, Karan Ajinkya finished second and India also won the silver in the team section with Ajinkya and Saurabh Siroya counting for the team. In the Under-15 section, Sankalp Modwal won the bronze medal while the team silver was won by him and Somani
Sanam.
In the girls U-9 section, G.Umabharathi of Chennai won the silver medal for herself and together with Tanvi Sala they also won the team silver medal.
