Luxman Wijesuriya, President of the Sri Lankan Chess Federation expects plenty of Indian players in their first International Rating Open to be held at Colombo from Jan 10-16, 2006. There is an appearance fee of Rs.10,000 for IMs with 2300 and above for travelling costs.
Inaugural Sri Lanka Open International Rating Chess Tournament 2006: This is to inform you that the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is organising the above event with a total prize fund of Rs.1,10,000 Sri Lankan Rupees in January 2006.
The details are as follows:
This is a Swiss System tournament over 9 rounds.
Dates and Venue : from 10th to 16th January 2005 in Colombo.
Schedule: 2 games each on 11th, 13th, 14th & 15th and a game on 12th. There will be a trip to Kandy, a historical, nice city in Sri Lanka on 16th for foreign players.
Prizes: Rs.35,000, Rs.18,000, Rs.9,000, 2 x Rs.5,000, 5 x Rs.2,500 respectively for first 10 players. Women: Rs.6,000, Rs.3000, Rs.1,500. Unrated: Rs.6,000, Rs.3,000, Rs.1,500. With Medals and Trophies. Best Under 15, 12 & 10 players will be given medals.
Entry fee: IMS, WIMS and those having more than 2250 are free. Rating 2100-2250 - Rs.500. Rating 2000-2100 - Rs.750. All other rated players - Rs.1,500. Unrated players -

Accommodation: All foreign rated players are given free accomodation while All IMs, WMs or higher ranks will be given the accommodation with three meals. Unrated foreign players are to contact the CFSL for their accommodation arrangements.
All IMs, WIMs with more than 2300 rating are paid Rs. 10,000 as a part payment for their travelling expenses.
