The Madras High Court on December 16 dismissed the Election Petition of Mr P.T.Ummer Koya and others challenging the Elections to the Office Bearers of the All India Chess Federation that was held here in Chennai on September 25.
As directed by the Supreme Court, Mr P.T.Ummer Koya and others filed an application challenging the elections within the main suit pending in the Madras HIgh Court. After due consideration Mr Justice Raviraja Pandian dismissed the appeal of Mr Koya and others.
It may be recalled that the elections on September 25 was conducted by Retired Judge of the Madras High Court Mr Justice A.K.Rajan. He disqualified seven states from contesting in the elections for non-payment of the membership fees before the prescribed due date.
"We (on behalf of Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu) have filed two suits and have got both," said a cheerful senior counsel Mr N.S.Sivan who added, "now there is no point in keeping the suits alive." However, Mr Koya and others might go on appeal.
