The dominance of Andhra Pradesh has been challenged by Tamil Nadu in age group chess. In the 31st National Sub-Junior Championship that was held at Mumbai from Nov 16-22, S.P.Sethuraman of Tamil Nadu won the boy's event while Lakshmi Sahiti of Andhra Pradesh won the girls section.
It was a close race in the boys event with S.P.Sethuraman winning the title with 9/11 when he managed to finish half a point ahead of top seed Dasari Sai Srinivas. A record 172 players took part in this event.
Contrary to the boys section, the girls section saw Lakshmi Sahiti race to the title with a comfortable 10/11 score. She finished 1.5-points ahead of the 75-player event. Top seed I.Ramyakrishna finished fifth.
Final placings: 1 S.P.Sethuraman 9/11, 2-4 Dasari Sai Srinivas, M.Shyamsundar, B.Adhiban 8.5 each, 5-11 P.Saravanakrishnan, R.Premnath, R.A.Pradeepkumar, Aswin Jayaram, R.Arun Karthik, Avi Bagdi, R.Ashwath 8 each...172 players.
