The All India Chess Federation which held its Central Council, Special General Body Meeting and the Annual General Body Meeting at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium complex in Chepauk, Chennai on Nov 13 made several landmark decisions.
The AICF resolved to reward success and award Rs.50,000 each to the World U-10 champion Sahaj Grover of Delhi and World U-12 champion N.Srinath of Chennai. The two players had won the world titles in July this year at Belfort, France. Mary-Ann Gomes of Kolkata was awarded Rs.20,000 for winning the Asian U-16 championship at Uzbekistan this June.
The AICF Player Registration fees has been fixed for Rs.250 for those who are Under-16. This is 50% reduced from the Rs.500 fixed by the previous office bearers. And those who pay in the March 1-20 period for the financial year beginning April 1 would get a discount of Rs.50. The rate has been brought down from Rs.500 to Rs.200 in effect for those who are U-16. Thus, a large number of chess players who come in this age group would benefit.
A magazine or a newsletter would be produced and sent to all affiliated units by the AICF for distribution among its members. The modalities of information reaching players is being worked out.
The special members like the Railways, LIC, Banks, Petroleum Boards would now be required to pay only Rs.10,000 against the previous fee of Rs.20,000.
The constitution was also amended and the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer cannot continue for more than two terms in the same post.
