April 13 was a double round day for men and Diwakar Prasad Singh overcame Humpy in the morning and Kamble in the evening to move forward in the standings of the 43rd GVMC National Chess Championship at Visakhapatnam. Diwakar Prasad Singh for chess is like the Dhoni of Indian cricket. D.P.Singh is on 10.5 points from 15 games and with this attitude, once can expect him to play catch up on the leader. He is in third place.

J.Deepan Chakkaravarthy consolidated his lead in the evening session by inflicting a defeat on P.D.S.Girinath. Deepan is on 11.5 points from 15 games. In second place is Ganguly on 10.5/14. The fourth place is shared by M.R.Venkatesh of Bharat Petroleum, Chennai and Koneru Humpy with 10/14.

Six rounds remain to be played. If D.P.Singh manages to qualify for the Turin Olympiad, he will be the first non-IM in the Indian team in more than a decade.

Diwakar Prasad Singh of Jharkhand sprang a major surprise in round 14 by shocking Koneru Humpy of Andhra Pradesh to move to the fourth place in the 43rd GVMC National Men A Chess Championship being played at Vizag on April 13.

J.Deepan Chakkaravarthy of Tamil Nadu remains in the lead after a quiet draw to take his tally to 10.5 points. Defending champion Surya S Gunguly of Indian Oil, Kolkata took a quick draw despite having white against last year's runner-up Sandipan Chanda of ONGC, Kolkata. Ganguly is in second place with ten points from 13 games. Koneru Humpy who was defeated is in third place with 9.5 points from 13 games. D.P.Singh is in fourth place with 9.5 points from 14 games. Seven rounds remain to be played.

Round 13 produced nine out of nine decisive games in the 32nd National Women A Championship being played alongside the men event on April 13 morning. Most top aspirants moved one point forward with leader Swati Ghate of LIC, Pune humbling debutant Supriya Maji of Bengal with the black pieces. Swati Ghate leads with 9.5/12. All other games were a whitewash with white players winning the games.

Mary Ann Gomes of Kolkata clinically outplayed Nimmy George to move to the second place with nine points. Meenakshi Subbaraman of Indian Airlines, Chennai downed national junior champion Soumya Swaminathan to move to third place with 8.5 points from 12 games.

Favourite and top seed Vijayalakshmi who is playing in the National A for the first time since her marriage with Sriram Jha is in fourth place with 8.5 points from 13 games. Six rounds remain to be played.
