Konery Humpy who turned 19 last week is leading the National A for men with full four points at the end of the fourth round at the Swarna Barathi Indoor Stadium in Visakhapatnam on April 5. She accounted for Vikramaditya Kamble of Maharashtra with the white pieces.
India's highest rated player among those untitled, B.S.Sivanandan of Karnataka put the brakes on Deepan Chakkaravarthy by holding him to a draw. Deepan is in second place with 3.5 points. Defending champion and top seed Ganguly, Kidambi and R.B.Ramesh are in joint third place with 2.5 points each from four games.
There is no stopping debutant Kiran Monisha Mohanty of Bhubaneswar and Swati Ghate of LIC, Pune in the National Women's Championship. They recorded their third successive victory to lead the table with three full points. The tallest competitor, I.Ramyakrishna is also on full score (2/2), although she had had a bye in the first round.
Top seed, World No.11 and six-time champion Vijayalakshmi trounced the defending champion Nisha Mohota in a crucial game. Five-time champion Anupama Gokhale who in the absence of Bhagyashree Thipsay has become the oldest player is struggling without a single draw from her first three games.
The men event is a 21-player all-play-all while the women event is a 19-player all-play-all. In both events the top three finishers will qualify for the Chess Olympiad to be held at Turin next month.
