Lucky Vijayalakshmi Joins Leaders

Three players, Vijayalakshmi Subbaraman, Swati Ghate and Tania Sachdev won
their sixth round game to join leaders Dronavalli Harika and Meenakshi
Subbaraman at the top in the Win TV National Women "A" Chess Championship
here. All five players have 4.5 points from six rounds and five rounds are
left to be played.
Kruttika Nadig played well to enjoy a good advantage against Vijayalakshmi
but she left the top seed off the hook from move 44 onwards to lose in 61
moves with the black pieces. Luck favours the trier and Vijayalakshmi
keeps trying all positions.
Defending champion Swati Ghate of LIC held a slight advantage in the
middlegame and induced white into a pin to win an exchange on the 38th
move.
Tania Sachdev of Delhi registered an easy 40-move win with white against
Eesha Karavade. Karavade's poor handling of the Grunfeld defence opening
led to white winning an exchange early in the lop-sided affair.
In the top board, Dronavalli Harika and Meenakshi Subbaraman decided to
preserve their energy for the remaining five rounds by taking an eight
move draw. Both are yet to win the National Women A title and are
women grandmasters.
