Harika In Sole Lead

Woman Grand Master D.Harika of Andhra Pradesh snatched sole lead in the
Win TV National Women "A" Chess Championship. Harika won all her three
matches played so far. She accounted from Orissa kid Padmini Rout when her
opponent lost on time. In the second place are S.Vijayalakshmi (Del),
Tania Sachdev (Del), S.Meenakshi (TN), Eesha Karavade (Mah) with 2.5
points. Sunday will be a crucial day as two rounds will be played.
Saturday saw plenty of fighting spirit from the women. Harika, the world
under-18 champion defeated the kid talent of Padmini Rout in 50 moves with
the white pieces. In a minor piece ending, Harika was about to win the
ending when Padmini lost on time. International Master Vijayalakshmi
scored a crucial win beating woman grand master Nisha Mohota with the
black side in 80 moves. Vijayalakshmi turned a poor opening into a good
ending victory. Meenakshi beat Ramyakrishna after the latter had problems
from the back rank to lose in 36 moves. Aarthie Ramesh scored her first
victory and rebounded from the second round defeat. Tania Sachdev was at
her tactical best to down Kiran Mohanty with a new plan with the black
pieces. Eesha Karavade was lucky to get an extra half point when Swati
Mohota misplayed a bishop ending.
