Tania Sachdev Holds On To Half Point Lead

Tania Sachdev defended the queen ending well to hold Dronavalli Harika to
a creditable draw in the tenth round and keep her half point lead in the
Win TV National Women "A" Chess Championship here today.
Tania, 20 leads with 7.5 points after the penultimate round. There are
three players in the joint second place with seven points and it includes
S.Vijayalakshmi (IA), Aarthie Ramesh (IA) and D.Harika (AP). All these
players have title chances in the final round tomorrow.
Tania had a slight worse ending but she defended well to make a 54-move
draw with Harika. Vijayalakshmi crushed defending champion Swati Ghate
with the black pieces and also ended her title chances. Vijayalakshmi
played the Ruy Lopez with black and was at her tactical best. Aarthie had
an easy win against Amruta Mokal with the black pieces after she won a
rook. However, Amruta lost but made a 10-game Woman International Master
Master norm. This 20-year old is from Pune.
Meenakshi Subbaraman rebounded with a victory against Eesha Karavade and
is in line to keep her place in the Indian team.
